Commentary
- President's Cup Day 1 Very firm Pres hoops in new hoop holes promised some interactivity on the morrow, especially if the threatened rain held off. Sadly it didn't and Friday dawned very damply. Nonetheless, interactivity was the order of the day and now that the sun has returned, the degree if challenge should increase. Part of the fun at Ryde is the two-tone appearance of the lawns with fast pale brown areas and slower green patches, making strength judgement of rushes and croquet strokes more testing than usual. Anyway, after Round 2, all are on 1/2 barring Patel (2/2) and Dawson (0/2). by Stephen Mulliner
- Commentary 2 Samir Patel finished with 4 wins to take the overnight lead but is closely pursued by Avery, Mulliner and Maugham, the latter in fact on 3/4 because his Rd 5 match against Hopgood has been pegged down because of bad light (very gloomy by 2000) with DM on 1 and 1b and JH on penult and rover. by Stephen Mulliner
- Commentary 3. Ryde had 0.5in of rain overnight which has slowed the lawns somewhat and we are now experiencing intermittent showers with the prospect of dryer weather for the rest of the weekend. In the pegged-down game, Maugham took his forward ball to 4b but Hopgood hit the lift and finished. In Rd 6, Patel increased his lead with a TP against Mulliner, followed by Avery and Hopgood on 4. by Stephen Mulliner
- Commentary 4: It's closed up here at Ryde with Patel holding a one game advantage after an eventful 6th turn quad against Hopgood. James went to 1b in turn 3 but missed into baulk after 6, Samir hit but played a wrong ball after 2b and a pop. Turn 5 saw James advance his 1b ball to 4b and turn 6 concluded with a lengthy combination peg-out. Total control throughout! Maugham and Mulliner are also on 6/10 and Avery has 5. All to play for tomorrow. by Stephen Mulliner
- Commentary 5: Maugham and Patel lead with 8/12 (and play each other in Rd 13) followed by Hopgood on 7 wins who could possibly tie on 9 wins. The rest are out. More rain this morning has kept the lawns easy-paced although the hoops are holding up reasonably well. by Stephen Mulliner
