ACA AC Eire Cup
NSW v WA - Briefly by Tony Hall
Good Morning All. I am flying home to Canberra at lunch time today so this will be only a brief commentary. After packing I arrived here at Toombul CC at 10:00am during a short shower. Today is fully overcast and about 28 degrees already, with high humidity. Luckily there is a gentle breeze to keep it more comfortable than otherwise.
All the doubles are complete and NSW leads WA 2 to 1.
No specific match stands out as being particularly noteworthy so I will do a little commentary on the one in front of me on Court 2, Pam Gentle, U and K v Sandra Stevenson, R and Y.
Y is in play, just made 3, with all the other clips on 1. Sandra is using only three balls, with K 6y E of corner II. She has the 3bb under tight control, good pioneers and short approaches to hoops. After 5 she collects K and puts it a yard S of 1b and sends U to 2b. She makes 6 and still has tight control. Very precise. She roquets K into the jaws of 1b and calls a referee to watch her placing her ball. A gentle Irish sends both balls a couple of yards and she leaves K behind, 7y SSW of hoop 2. Her pioneer for 3b is her partner ball, R. After 2b she rushes U to the peg, ready for a diagonal spread leave. She makes 3b off R with a hoop and roquet and stands for a while considering what to do. U is just S of the peg, open to K at about 15 yards. Eventually she sends R to 7y N and 2y E of IV and Y to 6y S of II, only 9y from K.
Pam lifts U from near the peg and makes a double K, Y from A baulk. She misses to a few inches from Y.
And now I must leave for the airport.
Happy Croquet to all!
