ACA AC Men's Singles
Aust Mens Singles Final by Tony Hall
Good Morning All.
I arrived here at 9:00am to find that Stephen Forster had won the first game of the best-of-five 26tp-0 and Robert Fletcher had won the second game 26tp-0, all in the first hour. In the third game Stephen made the first 9 hoops, Robert shot from the W bdry at what may have been a double on the E bdry, hit, made 12 and peeled his oppo through the last three hoops, pegged it out and gave contact. From contact on the E bdry, 10y S of III, Stephen put his oppo ball to 3 y N of 1 but had a 14 yarder at the hot ball on the E bdry 10y S of II and missed it. Robert finished, 26tpo-0.
It is a hot, muggy day with about 5/8 cloud, about 32 degrees C. We are lucky there is a solid breeze, which will make the day much better than the last three days.
Fourth Game
Robert R and Y, Stephen U and K.
1. Y to E bdry 10y N of IV.
2. U duffer tice to 1y S of 6 and 1 foot E of 6.
3. R misses Y from A baulk.
4. K hits duffer from B baulk to 10y E of the peg, takes off to oppo's balls, rushes R to 1, makes 1 and has a controlled break. I will post this first set of comments as Stephen is making 2b with a very tight break.

4 (cont). Stephen leave Y and U at the peg and makes 3b off R. He croquets R to 3y from the W bdry just N of peg high, sets Y 1y S of the peg and
K on the E bdry, 12y N of IV with a rush for U to the peg.
5. Robert lifts Y from the peg to III and shoots at U. Misses to 7y N of IV.
6. Stephen, U, rushes K to the W bdry croquets it to 2 and gets a good rush on R or 1 - to 14 inches W of the hoop. He makes 1 and rushes R to 3 y S of Y, croquets R to 4. Rushes Y to 3, makes 2 off his potential peelee, K, makes 2, rushes K to 3 and starts an on-time triple. He completes the first peel after 3, sending K almost out - but not - makes 4 off R, sending Y to 5 (so accurately it elicits clapping from the crowd of 20 spectators), rushes R to 3y S of III, sends R to 6, rushes K to 2y N of penult, takes off to Y at 5, makes 5, rushes Y to 2ySE of 1b, takes off to K and positions it 18 inches N of penult, makes 6 off R, peels K through penult to level with the peg (1y W), rushes R to the N bdry, croquets it to 2b, makes 1b off Y, croquets Y to 3b, but goes a bit far and has to rush K to N of 1. He croquets K to about 4 inches N of rover, makes 2b off R, sends R to 4b, jawses K in rover on the way to 3b, makes 3b off Y and rushes Y to penult, makes 4b off R, croquets R to 1foot N of rover, makes penult off Y, no forward rush, rolls Y to 3y from the S bdry, calls referee and rush peels K, sends it to the peg, makes rover off R and finishes, 26tp-0.

5. Stephen lifts Y to A baulk and shoots at U. Misses.
6. K hits Y (5y) to 7 y N of U, croquets Y to 2y N of the peg, getting a rush on U to the peg where R awaits. He sends U to 5y N of 1, rushes R to 1, makes 1, roquets and croquets R to 3, rushes and croquets U to 3/4b getting a rush on Y to 2, makes that rush to good positIon and is well set for an on-time triple.

He jawses the peelee after 3, makes 4 off Y, croquets Y to 6, makes 5 off R, rushes R to the W bdry 14y S of III, sends it to 1b and rush peels U through 4b. He rolls it to peeling position, 5 feet N of penult, makes the hoop off Y, jawses the peelee and rushes Y to the N bdry. He croquets Y to 2b, makes 1b off R, no forward rush, roquets and croquets it to 3b, getting long position to rush-peel U through penult. He calls a referee to watch and rushes U to 4y N of rover. He puts U to 6 inches in front of rover on his way to 2b, which he makes off Y. I note that all his hoops, with one exception, have been from a very close position, under 12 inches. The exception was hoop 4, from 3 ft, which he ran without touching the sides.
Robert attempts to rush peel U before 3 b but it bounces off and he sends it to 5 y E of rover on his way to R at 3 b. He makes 3b but goes too far to rush U in front of rover, so he rushes it to 1 foot SE of rover and moves it to N of rover on the way to getting a rush on R to the N. R is rushed and croqueted to penult. He makes 4b off Y, sends it to near the peg, makes penult off R, croquets R to 4 y S of rover, rushes Y to 2 ft from the peelee, rushes U directly in front of rover, 1 foot N. He completes the peel and finishes, 26tp-0.
Robert wins three games to two.
I am advised that they actually started shortly after 7:00am so they took about 5 hours ten minutes for the five games.
Farewell from sunny, hot Queensland.
