Semi Final 2. Skinley vs Demurgue by Brian Boutel

Hi all, this is Jared Keeman (using Brian's account) and I'll be giving a bit of a commentary for the second semi final of the NZ open on a glorious Chch morning

17 Jan 2015 9:37AM (Tournament); 2 Readers

Ian (R+Y) opens with red to the east boundary levelish with 4
Paul to CNR2
Ian is shooting down the line at partner

17 Jan 2015 9:39AM (Tournament); 3 Readers

Conditions look like they could be quite challenging today. Lawns are running at about 11.5 at the moment and the Atkins hoops provided plenty of failed hoops during the warmup

17 Jan 2015 9:41AM (Tournament); 2 Readers

Ian hits partner cutting it a yard in lawn, takes off to K in CNR2

17 Jan 2015 9:41AM (Tournament); 3 Readers

Pass rolls K 4 yards south of 2 and looking to set a rush back to it, trying to decide if he wants to put yellow off the boundary or lag back to red

17 Jan 2015 9:44AM (Tournament); 4 Readers

Small crowd at this stage of the day, only 3 or 4 here. I blame the Buskers across the park for the low patronage

17 Jan 2015 9:46AM (Tournament); 4 Readers

Ian plays yellow off the lawn, leaving a 1 yard straight rush to black

17 Jan 2015 9:46AM (Tournament); 3 Readers

Lawns could get very toasty today, nice breeze to dry them out, no clouds at all and it's supposed to crack 30 today. Chris reckons 13+ seconds is very likely

17 Jan 2015 9:47AM (Tournament); 3 Readers

Paul is shooting down the east boundary

17 Jan 2015 9:48AM (Tournament); 3 Readers

Misses, only going 2 yards off the lawn, didn't hit that with much venom

17 Jan 2015 9:49AM (Tournament); 3 Readers

Ian clips the peg with a promising looking rush, to 3 yards south of 6, good roll gives him a 1 yard straight rush to 1

17 Jan 2015 9:50AM (Tournament); 4 Readers

Overhits the rush to a yard off the south boundary straight

17 Jan 2015 9:51AM (Tournament); 5 Readers

Half roll approach is a a touch long

17 Jan 2015 9:52AM (Tournament); 5 Readers

Has a 4 inch 40 degree hoop, weighing up his options

17 Jan 2015 9:53AM (Tournament); 6 Readers

Declines the hoop and returns to partner guarding the K at R 11 harder

17 Jan 2015 9:54AM (Tournament); 5 Readers

Yarder*

17 Jan 2015 9:56AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Paul shooting at partner in CNR 4

17 Jan 2015 9:56AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Middles it

17 Jan 2015 9:56AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Takes off to R and Y, leaves a 6 harder at Y on the line and a 4 harder at R

17 Jan 2015 9:58AM (Tournament); 10 Readers

Auto correct is giving me a bit of a yard time

17 Jan 2015 9:58AM (Tournament); 10 Readers

Hits yellow rolls yellow foot west of 2 and a 1 yard rush to 1

17 Jan 2015 9:59AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Cuts to rush, approaching from 4 yards north of 1 on the W boundary

17 Jan 2015 10:00AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

playing it as a pass roll, leaves black 2 feet west of 1, looking for a spot in CNR4 to retire to that doesn't leave a double

17 Jan 2015 10:01AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Joins 1 yard north of
CNR4

17 Jan 2015 10:02AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Ian is shooting at Y, 12 yarder

17 Jan 2015 10:03AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Gets lucky and gets a snick off the left hand wire of 2 to make the rocket

17 Jan 2015 10:05AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Roquet* gah

17 Jan 2015 10:05AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Take off to B + K is a bit short, leaving a 8 harder at the CNR ball

17 Jan 2015 10:06AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Hits Northern B and cuts it into CNR4 not sure if theres a cannon here or not

17 Jan 2015 10:07AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Bit of discussion between Paul and Ian, K isn't a CNR ball but right be close enough here. Brian has been called over to determine the exact yard line

17 Jan 2015 10:08AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Must be pretty close. In the other game greg is having a ball around, looks to be trying tidy up after getting hampered out of 2b and hitting one of his 3b pioneers

17 Jan 2015 10:09AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Off to do some snooping on this cannon situation, brb

17 Jan 2015 10:10AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Has a cannon

17 Jan 2015 10:11AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Calls a ref for th shot but it looks fairly easy from my position

17 Jan 2015 10:15AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

Lost a comment above I think - cannon left B 5 yards SE of hoop 1 but hoop approach was rather good giving 1 inch almost straight position

17 Jan 2015 10:16AM (Tournament); 10 Readers

Runs the hoop with a rush to the peg, has all 4 balls in lawn now and this should be a break

17 Jan 2015 10:17AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

K is 4 yards N of 4, takes off behind it and plays a very good rush into CNR2 with Y 3 yards NW of hoop 2, should have enough room here to develop a bit of a pioneer and still hold for the rush to 2

17 Jan 2015 10:19AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Stop shot has a great ratio, leaves a longer rush to 2 than he would have liked and gets K 2 yards W of 3

17 Jan 2015 10:21AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Cuts the rush to a yard W of 2 but deals with the approach and hoop stroke to make 2, 4bb established

17 Jan 2015 10:21AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Leaves his hoop 4 pioneer 3 yards short but shouldn't be too mush of an issue

17 Jan 2015 10:24AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

4 yard return out of 3

17 Jan 2015 10:25AM (Tournament); 7 Readers

Hits, with B 3 yards east of 6 he's loading 6 early with K (2 foot straight pioneer) rushes B to Y

17 Jan 2015 10:27AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

hes rushed it to within a foot of Y but in line to 5 which makes his h5 pioneer a bit awkward, gets it 2 yards East of the hoop

17 Jan 2015 10:28AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Makes 4 to the line. puts yard behind 5 and gets the rush to 5, looks like he'll h=e having an early 2b pioneer

17 Jan 2015 10:30AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Runs it with control

17 Jan 2015 10:32AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

All pretty standard, will be interesting to see what leave he goes for here, I haven't caught much play so Im not sure what he favours

17 Jan 2015 10:33AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

K goes 3 yards SW of 1b so looking like a Standard leave variation, he's got a good approach so theres room to put B into MSL position

17 Jan 2015 10:36AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

clubs through the hoop though to leave a 2 yard return at B

17 Jan 2015 10:37AM (Tournament); 8 Readers

Dribbles it off and should be able to dink it into position

17 Jan 2015 10:37AM (Tournament); 9 Readers

Correction he's playing it as a takeoff so ends up with a tight NSL ball rather than an MSL

17 Jan 2015 10:38AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Rushes 5 yards W of partner at 2b

17 Jan 2015 10:38AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Breeze is starting to pick up. "Its going to be very tasty if that wind keeps up" - CC

17 Jan 2015 10:40AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Ian has punched K 4 yards past 3b, this will be a bit trickier

17 Jan 2015 10:40AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

Does well to get a rush across out of 2b though so that'll tidy that up

17 Jan 2015 10:42AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Rushes to 1 foot of the hoop ad approaches off that ball rather than using black

17 Jan 2015 10:42AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

makes the hoop and rushes yellow off the E boundary level with 3b. Bit awkward now

17 Jan 2015 10:43AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

takes off to black and looks like he's going try and hide it on 4, doesn't have a lot of angle to hide from the baulk and hamper the shot at the boundary balls though

17 Jan 2015 10:44AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Y is only a yard or so N of 3b

17 Jan 2015 10:45AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Gets the hamper but after looking at it I would guess he's left at least 3/4 ball from the end of A baulk

17 Jan 2015 10:46AM (Tournament); 13 Readers

Pauls out eying up his options

17 Jan 2015 10:47AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Must have hidden enough of it, Paul lifts K on 4 and is shooting down the line

17 Jan 2015 10:48AM (Tournament); 13 Readers

Hes shooting from about 6 yards W of CNR3, may have a bit of a wide double

17 Jan 2015 10:49AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

slides past the in lawn ball and ends up in CNR 4

17 Jan 2015 10:50AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

Ian has a 1.5 yard rush towards 2

17 Jan 2015 10:50AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

Breeze is definitely starting to pick up now, bit gusty too, should make things just a bit more difficult.

17 Jan 2015 10:51AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

Rushes 2 yards E of 2, looks like he's playing takeoff for the rush

17 Jan 2015 10:52AM (Tournament); 11 Readers

gets a 1 yard rush pointing at 5, lucky he gave himself a bit of room

17 Jan 2015 10:53AM (Tournament); 12 Readers

Great approach leaves himself a 12 inch straight hoop

17 Jan 2015 10:54AM (Tournament); 10 Readers

Picks a spot for himself looking for the rush back to the ball in CNR4, under runs it though and ends up with a rush to the middle of the E boundary

17 Jan 2015 10:54AM (Tournament); 10 Readers

Cuts towards 4 and loads 4 going to the ball in the corner, looks like he will be playing the Hogan roll out of the corner

17 Jan 2015 10:57AM (Tournament); 13 Readers

Taking his time lining this one up, Im a bit surprised he's taking on such a big roll without a great hoop 2 pioneer

17 Jan 2015 10:58AM (Tournament); 14 Readers

pretty good, K 2 feet E of 3, and Y 2 feet North of Y, doesn't have a rush to the hoop but cuts it so he's approaching from 3 yards SE of 2

17 Jan 2015 11:00AM (Tournament); 13 Readers

2 foot straight hoop 2

17 Jan 2015 11:01AM (Tournament); 13 Readers

Creams it through to the line

17 Jan 2015 11:01AM (Tournament); 13 Readers

That will be me for the day, I think Jenny might be taking over for me
