CA GC InterClub Semi-Final Dulwich v Surbiton
Captain's View by Don Beck
This eagerly awaited match between the two strongest teams in the event did not disappoint.
After much negotiation over when to play it became clear that Dulwich had assembled their strongest team supplemented by Lionel. Missing were some of their regulars: Andrew Dymond, Sue Lightbody and Simon Carter though two of them did come to watch.
Surbiton's retired brigade of Stephen, Don, Chris were ably supported by Howard who was not going to miss this match.
At lunch ( a most impressive spread) in the sunshine, it was clear from the minimal consumption of alcohol that this was a serious match. Dulwich held a 2-1 lead but Surbiton had a confidence that we would get the required 3 singles. After Stepehn (win) , Chris (lost) the score was 3-2 to Dulwich and it was down to the regulars Howard and Don to get the required wins. Don beat Mark (2-0 to tie the match 3-3.
After Howard cruised through the first game Guy woke up and started to make a match of it. Apart from the players a crowd of a dozen had gathered and it all went to the 13th hoop. Howard and Surbiton had the victory.
