WCF U21 World Championships
U21 Day 4 by Jenny Clarke
Update at 2.15 day 4 from Chris Clarke.
Another hot suuny day with some upsets on the cards. Top seed Harry Dodge went 4-1 down to Shaun Theobald before winning with a 3 yard jump through 13. The second was also competitive but Harry prevailed. Meanwhile Lachy took the first off Karim but the score was levelled. In the third, Lachy had a chance for a 3-0 lead, but Karim took the third and soon after the match to set up an all Egyptian QF against Marwan who had playe extremely well against Laura. Marwan is now my favourite for the event.
Other matches are going to form.
At around 12.30, the wind started picking up and is currently gusting around 80kmh, with potential to reach over 100kmh. Play has just been stopped for 15 mins so that the lawns can be watered. Many players were failing to keep their balls on the lawn when taking position from 2 to 3 on lawn 5. The Egyptians contend that they never have to play in strong winds. It is still less windy than my Cape Town semi v Ahmed Nasr.
The games in progress are Hemi v George C and Hemi is game up. Josh leads James by a game.
Hopefully Jenny will be around later to provide more colour.
