report by Don Beck
Congratulations to Surbiton Croquet Club on winning the GC Interclub Championship against Ashby, 4-3. This makes it the sixth time that Surbiton have won the trophy, having not won it since 2011.
Going into lunch Surbiton had 2-1 lead. With both Nick Cheyne and Don Beck winning their singles matches. The doubles match was a close affair that was decided on the 13th hoop going to Rachel Rowe and Will Gee of Ashby. This after Samir took an ingled shot at 13 from the boundary.
After the break Nick Cheyne quickly wrapped up his match against Arthur Rowe to give Surbiton the lead, 3-1. With Surbiton needing just one more win it was down to either Don Beck, Samir Patel or Chris Farthing to win it. Both Samir's and Chris Farthing's matches were poised at one game all and Don Beck, was one game up. It was Don Beck who secured the win with some steady and consistent play against Tim King to win the trophy!
Ashby 1st(Will Gee) and 2nd (Rachel Rowe) seeds secured their wins in third game to make the final result 4-3 to Surbiton.
