Solomon Trophy
Solomon Trophy - Final Day by Alison Jones
Good morning everyone, welcome to a slightly cooler Sunny Surbiton. Today I am on lunch duty, but I thought that I could just send out a little update whilst I am waiting for the potatoes to boil.

Ian Plummer is kindly going to tell me the latest gossip...
10 Aug 2018 9:56AM (Tournament); 1 Readers
Starting with... we have easy lawns!
10 Aug 2018 9:56AM (Tournament); 1 Readers
4 TP's have already been completed within 2 hours play.
10 Aug 2018 9:57AM (Tournament); 1 Readers
Match score first thing this morning was 10-4 to GB. It is still... 10-4, to GB.

Matthew Essick is soon going to be completing his 5th turn triple to win his match, after winning his first game against Suter with a 6th Turn triple.
10 Aug 2018 9:59AM (Tournament); 1 Readers
Kirby has just arrived at the commentary chair...
10 Aug 2018 10:00AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Kirby v Huneycutt, with Hunnycutt in play. This is the first game and he's looking to complete a TP.
10 Aug 2018 10:01AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
It appears to have gone a little wrong for Essick.... He's roqueted peelee into the back of Rover... oops.
10 Aug 2018 10:01AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Although it looks as though it's in the middle of the hoop...
10 Aug 2018 10:01AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Will he peg out through the hoop?
10 Aug 2018 10:01AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
That was exciting... I was called to umpire the shot... Black hit the peg.
10 Aug 2018 10:02AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Now has a hampered shot at the prg for Blue...
10 Aug 2018 10:03AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Hits.
10 Aug 2018 10:03AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
My word, well done Matthew!
10 Aug 2018 10:03AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Patel is back on the lawn, playing against Morgan. Still game 1.
10 Aug 2018 10:05AM (Tournament); 2 Readers
Stuart Lawence gets stuck in 3 back against Carter with yellow, all other balls for hoop 1.
10 Aug 2018 10:05AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
I think I just heard Carter mutter QPO under his breath. Eeek.
10 Aug 2018 10:06AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
We have started to see little specs of wet stuff from the sky. A light shower, but enough to bring the spectators inside.
10 Aug 2018 10:09AM (Tournament); 3 Readers
Carter is now around to hoop 4, standard 4 ball break with a leave I believe.
10 Aug 2018 10:14AM (Tournament); 5 Readers
Just going to make up the pancake mix... back shortly. Please feel free e-mail specific questions to me at [email protected].
10 Aug 2018 10:15AM (Tournament); 6 Readers
Just checking the weather for Kirby... It's got a little heavier out there.
10 Aug 2018 10:27AM (Tournament); 9 Readers
Hunrucutt also won the first, after failing to peg out through Rover.
10 Aug 2018 10:28AM (Tournament); 10 Readers
The weather forecast is telling us the rain is now here to stay.
10 Aug 2018 10:29AM (Tournament); 9 Readers
Looks like Carter made it to 4 back with Black, Lawrence with yellow, I assume missed the two balls on the east boundary to corner 4. Red is sitting pretty near hoop two, Carter approaching hoop 1 from 4 yards south west.
10 Aug 2018 10:31AM (Tournament); 10 Readers
With red.
10 Aug 2018 10:31AM (Tournament); 10 Readers
Patel is playing Morgan, has pegged a ball out and apparently made 'quite a nice leave'... but too complicated to describe. And I was cooking berries so didn't see.
10 Aug 2018 10:36AM (Tournament); 14 Readers
However, Patel is now back in play with what appears to be a nice controlled three ball break to finish.
10 Aug 2018 10:36AM (Tournament); 15 Readers
Patel wins!
10 Aug 2018 10:49AM (Tournament); 15 Readers
GB Wins!

Apparently, says Plummer, Lawn 4 where Patel has just finished, was running at 11.5 ish plummers.
10 Aug 2018 10:58AM (Tournament); 15 Readers
Patel said that the ramp measurement must have been over a fast patch, and has just timed the same lawn using the traditional method at 9 plummers.

Thanks Alain for your e-mail. In answer to your question I personally have been most impressed with Matthew Essick.
10 Aug 2018 1:15PM (Tournament); 7 Readers
Matthew has somewhat upped gis game in the last couple of years, he was very much in control of the lawn, made sensible decisions and of course HITS EVERYTHING still.
10 Aug 2018 1:16PM (Tournament); 7 Readers
The rain has now turned into somewhat of a thunderstorm, and it's coming down sideways.
10 Aug 2018 1:17PM (Tournament); 6 Readers
Everyone has now had their lunch, including pancakes, which were scrummy if I do say so myself.

Meanwhile, we have had a few spectators, mainly local club members. It was great to see Jamie Burch arrive this afternoon to support his fellow GB team mates.

Samir is with me, he says he has very much enjoyed the Solomon Trophy this year.
10 Aug 2018 1:27PM (Tournament); 8 Readers
He says, we have had. 16 second, 9 second, lots of rain but no snow. The varying conditions have made life interesting.
10 Aug 2018 1:28PM (Tournament); 8 Readers
Carter is now with me, he says his Solomon debut was great, although not really liking the rain.
10 Aug 2018 1:29PM (Tournament); 8 Readers
Suter is hovering. He says, what made it especially pleasurable was meeting the American team and making new friends. Both Suter & Carter agree that they have enjoyed the good quality play on both sides.
10 Aug 2018 1:30PM (Tournament); 7 Readers
With some of the games being quite close, they are reflecting on the difference the conditions made.
10 Aug 2018 1:30PM (Tournament); 7 Readers
If the lawns were slightly easier on day one and two, perhaps the tournament results would've been closer.
10 Aug 2018 1:31PM (Tournament); 6 Readers
Kirby and Huneycutt have shaken hands... It was game all and 'nearly' break all. I think they would rather sit in the warm.
