Welcome to another gloriously sunny day at the National Croquet Center at West Palm Beach.

Jamie wins the toss and elects to go first. Paddy takes BK. Jamie attempts 3 from the north boundary but bounces off 2 ft east.
Paddy takes K to Nb and hits R, cutting it to 3y ENE 6. Takes off to 5, gets 4ft slightly angled position and runs it by 2ft. Plays the continuation to C1.
Jamie takes contact from K in C1, pass-rolls K to 7y NW 4, reaches R, roquets, plays a full roll down to 4, getting 3 yard straight position - but fails, bouncing off to the W by 2ft.
Paddy takes tiny lift-to-position on Y, rushes it S and then croquets it to 2ft E 3 while holding a rush on R. Hits R gently, croquets it to near 6, gets a reasonable rush on K to 2. Makes 2 and 3 and leeps Y at 4-b, thereby moving the Y clip from 4 to 3. Makes 4 and 5 having loaded 6 with K but, perhaps crucially, K is 1 yard NNE of 6. After 5, splits R accurately to 1-back and gets a rush on Y to middle N-b.

Gets a cut-rtush on K to straight peel position which he needs to keep going. Disaster! he rushes K into the back of 6 and has to scatter. leaving K in the hoop. B hits Y which hits R so that Y ends up 2ft S of the Nb near C2, R 6y S of that and B 8y N C1.

Jamie lifts R to Nb, rushes Y to near B, takes off to B, rushes it to 3, makes 3 and rushes K out of 6 down to 4ft E of 5, takes off to W of Y, rushes Y to 4y SSW 4, takes-off backwards to nasty angled 2y position - but runs it well to the Sb.

Rushes Y to 3y N h1, takes off to E of K, rushes it into leeping position at rover, gets the leep (so K moves back to hoop 4), getting a rush on B so R can make 5 and then leep B through rover as well!

Roquets K so it can be split to S of 3b. Makes 6 and 1-b, takes off back to SE of K, rushes it into leeping position, gets a clean leep to 10y N of 4. Cut rushes Y, the escape ball NW of 4 to 2-b, makes it, rushes up to 8y S C2, croquets Y to 3y W 4-b, gets a rush on B to N of K, stops B to 4ft E 4, rushes K to 6y SE 3-b but plays superb roll approach. Makes 3b, roquets K gently, takes off to B, rushes it S of 4 and leeps it hard through 3b going to W of Y, rushes Y to 4b, makes 4b, roquets Y, peels it through 3, hits B and splits it to 8y S C2 while R exits the Wb 9y N C1. A magnificent turn although the peel of Y has left in open court.

Paddy lifts K to Nb, hits B splits that to 5y WNW 5, ends 3ft N R. Hits R rolls it to 3y N 3 while getting a flattish rush on Y to middle Eb. Rolls to 4 from there, great shot, runs the hoop from 4ft to the boundary. Rushes Y to mid-N boundary, splits it to 1y N 6 and gets a rush on R to 3. Sets up for a leep of R through 3 but it sticks while K ends 4ft N B. Rushes B and approaches 5. No problem. Rushes B to mid E-b, croquets it to 5y ESE 1b while getting beyond R, rush-leeps it hard to 6y N 3b and takes off to Y at 6, makes 6, rushes Y down to N of R, leaves it in escape pos 2y W 3b, rushes R and takes-off back to 1-b, approaches 1b off B, makes it and rushes B to 3y W 3b, takes off to R, rushes it a couple of inches, leeps it with a small stop-shot and rushes Y to 4y N 2b

No problem with the approach and runs 2b to the Sb. Just nicks the 5y retuen roquet going gently!

Takes off from Y ro R, rushes that gently to N of B, stops it to 2ft SSE 1 while getting rush on B to 3b. Makes 3b with rush to the W. Croquets B to 5y NW 1, taps R into 1ft sleeping position at 1, leeps gently with stop shot, holds rush on Y to 4b.

Rushes Y to 4y SSW 4b. Approaches and makes it with Y 2y E 4b. Rushes Y to 11y N C4. Takes off to 2y E R. Rushes R to 8y N C1. Takes off to 2ft SE B. Rushes B to peg-hgih on Wb. Stop-shots B to 11y S C2. Ends another superb turn by sending K to 11y S C3. A taxtbook rectangular leave with no free gift for Jamie.

Jamie lifts Y to C1. He might rue his peel through 3 at the end of his last turn! Y just misses R on the right and ends up 4ft E C2. Concedes lift-to-position.

Paddy lifts B (for 4) to Y and takes his lift-to-position, rushing Y to 2y N R.Splits Y to 2ft W 1, holds a rush on R to K, rushes it to K, claims a cannon which is a great break. K is rushed to 1ft N of 4 with R 6y S of 4b. Approaches 4 sending K to E, runs 4, rushes K to 4y SE of R. Splits K to 3ft E penult, holds rush on R to Y (2ft W h1). Rushes R to 4ft S Y. Stops R to 6y N 1, rushes Y to 3y W 5.

Approaches 5 to 2ft straight, runs smoothly but hits Y in hoop stroke. Croquets Y to 1-b and gets B to 4ft ENE K. Rushes K to 1ft N penult, plays roll peel well, getting 2 yard rush on R towards 4-b. Cuts it to 6y SE 6. Approaches firmly, sending R to mid Nb. Runs hard and hits R on hoop stroke!

Croquets R to 2ft W 2b, B ending 1y E of K. Roquets gently to 5y SW 6, takes-off to Y to make 1-b. Approaches and makes 1b. Hits Y gently, croquets Y to 1y W 3b and holds rush on K to SW R. Gets good rush on R and plays gentle Irish peel, peeling R to 3b.

Cut-rushes K to 3y N C1. Stops K to 5y E peg. Rushes R to 2y W 3b. Gentle stop-shot and gains rush on Y to 6in W 3b. Split approach, makes 3b, roquets Y very gently, lines up peel through 4 with R available as escape. Peels Y by 1ft so Y on 5, R on 3b, K for rover and B for 4b. Rushes R to 5y SW K, splits K to penult and hold rush on K to 4-b.

Approaches and makes 4-b, gaining rush on K but chooses to roquet gently and split K to rover while going directly to R at penult. K is sent to 3y NNE rover, B hits R, approaches and makes penult and runs into R! Splist R to 7y S rover, gets beyond Y at 4 and rushes it to 2y N K. Splits Y to 1y E rover, but slightly mis-rushes K to 3ft NNE rover!

Lines the angled straight peel up very carefully - but K holds up in rover and B bounces off it to short angled position. The short angled jump fails sending B to near peg-high on Eb.

Jamie lifts Y and has 4y rush on R to B. Misses!!!?
