Spring GC Tournaments @ United
Spring GC OPEN tournament - Saturday 14 September by Jenny Clarke
Hi everyone,
Welcome to the United Spring Golf Croquet Open. This event will be played on Saturday 14 September.
8am arrival We’ll start taking entry fees and checking that all have arrived from 8am. Please also put your current handicap card on the clubhouse table and ensure you update it after each game if there is any possibility of your handicap changing. The lawns will be open for a warmup from 8.20, for an 8.30am start.
The event is a Flexible Swiss with no time limits.
This means that whenever players are available to play, they will have a game scheduled, providing near-continuous play. No games will be repeated, and I’ll endeavour to match people with those who have similar win/loss records. If you want a break at any time after a game, or to leave early towards the end of the event, please just let me know, and let me know when you’re ready to play again. That said, please don’t try to manipulate the draw with strategic available-to-play choices – your opponents and lawns will be assigned by the manager.
To win: you need to have completed 5 games, AND be in play or available to start a game at 3.30pm. The winner will be determined first by percentage wins, then by “average strength of opponent” which is calculated by dividing the total number of your opponents wins by the total number of games your opponents have played.
There will be up to 8 games in progress at any one time, so two lawns will be double banked. We’ll have double-banking available on all lawns apart from lawn 4, which is rather mossy, so it’ll always be easy to get a neutral lawn.
The initial draw and lawn allocations are:
Lawn 1: Levi Franks v Josh Freeth
Lawn 2: Gay Jones v Kaleb Small
Lawn 3: Flynn Moses-Jones vs Logan McCorkindale
Lawn 4: Josh Winter v Tony O’Donnell
Lawn 5: Myles Duggan v Chris Spittal
Lawn 5 second colours, and starting when Myles and Chris get to hoop 3: Claire Horncastle v Jono Hart
Lawn 6: Owen Evans v Duncan Dixon
Lawn 6: second colours and starting when Owen and Duncan get to hoop 3: James Duggan v Tim Slack
John Yarrall has a late start and will be first on against the first person to lose a game. John, please be at United by 9am. (Or earlier if you’re up for it, as I will rejig the draw if anyone is late/absent.)
When games are completed, please report results to me directly – that way I’ll know you’re done and potentially ready for another game. All results will be reported on CroquetScores here: https://croquetscores.com/2019/gc/spring-tournament-united/
All players who are qualified referees are authorised referees, Chris will also be present as a referee. I will be taking on the secondary role of Referee of Tournament.
The tournament entry fee ($15 for non-United members, $10 for United members, $25 for those non-United members playing in both events who pay Saturday morning by 9am) includes clubhouse fee, and a wide variety of nibbles will be available all day. BYO lunch, or go out and get it, but remember you need those 6 games completed!
There will be prizes, sponsored by Margaret Stoddart Retirement Villages.
The long range forecast is for a very cold start and possibly some precipitation – please come adequately prepared.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday morning and hope you have a very enjoyable tournament.

The forecast is horrible, but hopefully the lawns will remain playable all day - but bring warm clothes!
