Information Letter to Players by Annie Henry

Dear Player,

Welcome to the Croquet New Zealand 2020 – 2021 South Island Association Croquet Championships that will be held at Nelson Hinemoa Croquet Club from 9 - 13 December 2020.

The formats, general information, and catering are included in this letter. If you have questions, please let me know.

Formats: The formats for the Open Doubles, and Open Singles, 0 – 3.5+ Singles are based on giving a full tournament’s play for all competitors and having match play in the Open Singles. All draws are seeded using the world rankings. Please check croquetscores.com for your event.

Open Singles (Event 1):
There are 3 days (Friday through Sunday) of play. There are 6 players.
• The draw is seeded by world rankings and according to the conditions outlined in the CNZ Yearbook.
• Day One will be the start of block play. The games will be 3 hours with Reg. 9. There will be 3 games per day.
• Day Two will be the last two games of block play and the start of the knockout. The top four will play in the semi-finals knockout. Two games of the Bo3 will be played on day two. Please be prepared to play until dark.
• Day Three (Sunday) will be for the third game of the semi-final (if needed) and Best of 3 for the final.
• Best of three time limits are 3 ½/ 3/ 2 ½, with Reg.9.
• 5th and 6th will play a best of 3 on Sunday.
• No double banking.

Open Doubles (Event 2):
The Open Doubles will be played on Wednesday and Thursday (9 – 10 December). There are 6 doubles pairs that are seeded.
• Single games are 3 hours, Reg 9 for block play.
• There will be 3 games on Wednesday and 2 on Thursday. If there is more than one pair that has 4 wins, there may be a play off on Thursday.
• No double banking.

Singles 0 – 3.5 (Event 3):
There are 8 entries over 3 days of play that are seeded.
• Games will be 2 ½ hours, Reg. 9.
• There will be block play and a knock out.
• Days one and two of block play will be 3 games per day.
• Day three will play the last game of the block play, and then the knock out semi-final and final for the top 4 of the block. The bottom four of the block will also have a knock out.
• No double banking.

General Information:
• Practice will be available on Tuesday from 1 – 5 pm. Additional times may be arranged with the Manager.
• Report by 8:15 am for an 8:30 start each day.
• 5 minute warm up at the beginning of each day.
• All players have signed the CNZ Player Code of Conduct.
• There is an Appeals Committee.
• All games will be posted on croquet scores. The information in this letter will be posted on croquet scores in the “Commentary” section. Updates will also be posted.
• For entertainment, please visit Itson.Nelson or Nelson app.
• Closing ceremony for all awards will be on Sunday, 13 December.

Catering:
• There is a $5 per day for the club fee.
• Morning and afternoon teas will be served starting at 9:30 am until play is finished each day. Tea and coffee will be available from 8:15 onwards. Gluten free and vegetarian options will be served if pre-arranged.
• If you have any food requests, please let the manager know in advance.
• Lunches are available upon request.
o Order before 9 am each day. There are also cafes within a few blocks that are available as well as Burger King & McDonalds. You are welcome to bring your own lunch.
• BBQ with Dessert will be served on Saturday for $15. Order by Friday. All players and friends are invited. BYOB.
