2020 US Open
Playoffs and Elimination Rounds by Paul Bennett
Well the tournament block play is finishing up tomorrow in the AB flight while the Open flight has begun the double elimination knockout rounds.
When looking over these results, there is the top half of the knockout, where the winners playoff. In the bottom half of the knockout, the players have each one loss in the double elimination knockout. These players are trying to work their way back into the final best of three Finals.
Croquet Scores dot com has no easy way to setup up a double elimination knockout like we often like to run in America. We like to have a party near the end of the tournament, where we serve a wonderful buffet of food to all the players and friends of the tournament, as we watch the final matchup against the last two players standing.
In this double elimination playoff, the winner of the last game in the bottom half of the ladder (also known as the loser's bracket) does not have to beat the winner of the winner's bracket twice in this event. In many USCA events, the winner must be beaten twice by the player coming up from the bottom bracket. Instead, we choose to make the finals a best of three match.
On Friday, two players in the Open flight have been knocked out and are choosing to play a round of golf together. Joseph Gary Bennett and Peter Bach will be playing a round of golf with Bill Sullivan. Have fun gentleman.
Undefeated, Blake Fields and Steve Scalpone will meet each other to earn a spot into the Finals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rory Kelley will play Paul Bennett, while Rich Lamm plays Patrick Sweeney.
AB will finish up their double round robin block play and then begin a four person double elimination playoff.
