Australia - GC Open Doubles

Doubles = 14 pairs (at this stage) so:
• a single round robin (single banked) over first 2-3 days (aim for 6 games/day but fit 13 games over 2 days if possible);
• take 8 pairs into the KO, with bo3 QF & SF on Mon (Day 3). Rest into Plate;
• bo5 Final on Tues, plus other finals….
• back-up plan if bad weather etc spills several rounds over onto Mon AM is bo3 QF that afternoon, with bo3 SF & Final on Tues.

Pete & Rosie Landrebe had to withdraw due to covid-19 travel restrictions, so revised format is:
* single block of 13 pairs playing a round robin of single games against everyone in the block;
* format is 6 rounds/day (13 in 2 days would have been good);
* top 8 proceed to the KO, with bo3 QFs on Monday afternoon (Day 3). Plate commences;
* bo3 SFs and Final on Tuesday (Day 4) along with Plate, Y, W, Z, etc

The Draw was conducted by the ACA Events Committee using the ACA Seeding and Draw procedures. The World Ranking list current at 30 April 2021 was used for seeding purposes. The format for the Open Doubles is as follows.
1) A single block, with each pair to play a single 13 point game against each other pair in that block.
2) Pairs play the first 7 rounds on Saturday (Day 1) & 6 more rounds on Sunday (Day 2). Players may play more rounds on each day if conditions permit, at the Tournament Manager’s discretion, but players may decline to play more than 7 games on any day.

7) A Plate event will be conducted as a single block, playing single 13 point games, depending on numbers. There will be a single game final between the top 2 pairs in the block. The Plate will start on Monday (Day 3) and finish on Tuesday (Day 4).
games won proceed to the final 8 knockout stage. There will only be play-offs for qualifying positions – once you have qualified, place within the block will be decided by games won, then net points, then who beat who.
4) The quarter-finals & semi-finals (both bo3) will be played on Monday (Day 3). The Y will start that afternoon, also playing bo3.
5) The final will be on Tuesday (Day 4) as a best of five 13 point games. The finals of the Y & Z events will start as early as possible, playing bo3.
6) Play within all matches should be continuous, and only essential breaks should be taken during a match, including between games in a match.
The Doubles Plate Event
7) A Plate event will be conducted as a single block, playing single 13 point games, depending on numbers. There will be a single game final between the top 2 pairs in the block. The Plate will start on Monday (Day 3) and finish on Tuesday (Day 4).

Update: bad weather meant we switched to Option B. The remaining block rounds were on Monday AM (Day 3), along with any play-offs (none required). This meant the SF & Final were on Tues (Day 3) which meant the Final was a bo3.
