Mission Hills GC Open Championship
MH GC Open Day 1 by Paul Bennett
Hello all,
Mission Hills Croquet Club welcomes 17 of the best GC players from California, Arizona, and Baja, for the opportunity to compete for the MH GC Open Championship. DAY TWO has concluded, and 64 block matches have given us lots to look forward to. Long clearances, boundary hoops and tight angled jump shots, this tournament has produced it all, but it’s not over, it’s only just begun. Tomorrow, the KNOCKOUT rounds begin. Best of out 3 game matches all through the playoffs will be sure to produce some fantastic croquet.
In Group A, Paul Bennett, the top seed of the tournament has made sure that everyone knows why he's here, with an undefeated record of 8-0, Paul will stop at nothing to take another title home from Mission Hills. Cameron Evans, has maintained his level that he has shown all season, with a block record of 6-2, he shows very strong interest in going all the way. Rick Zazueta, from Baja California, Neil Burton and Vicki Till, both representing MH finished the block with a tying record of 5 wins and 3 losses, of which their seeding was determined by NET HOOPS.
In Group B, Association and Golf Croquet National Champion, Rich Lamm, cruises to the Knockout rounds with a final block record of 7-0. Lamm is a scary good croquet player, his delicate touch around the lawn and his cerebral approach to his game makes him a very strong contender for the title. Brian Lozano, striving to make his mark in the croquet world, finishes the block stage tied for 2nd place with Oakland Croquet club’s finest representative in Karl-Heinz Kempfer, a veteran in the competitive croquet circuit. Lastly, finishing 4th seed in the block, Welles Farago closed his round robin campaign strong, defeating 2nd seed in the block and showing indications of interest in taking on anyone who gets in his way.
