General Schedule

Practice

On Wednesday, players may practice at Lake Toxaway from 11:30 until 4:00, and at Highlands Falls from 3:00 until 5:00. Practice times for Chattooga are still TBD.

Players' Meeting and Opening Reception

On Wednesday there will be a Players' Meeting at Highlands Falls, 5:00. The Opening Reception will follow.

All players are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting and reception; this is the only time we will have the entire group in one place. If you cannot attend the Players' Meeting please let me know.

An "A" after the court number means secondary balls (i.e., stripes or second colors, depending on venue).

Note: for those playing at Lake Toxaway on Thursday, court set-up will be delayed by half an hour and the courts will not be available for practice until 9:30. The first game will start around 9:45 (instead of 9:20 as listed on the schedule) and subsequent rounds may be similarly affected.

Format

All games are 13-point (score 7 points to win).

The First Eight will play a round-robin of best-of-three-games matches. Ranking is by match wins, with net games as the primary tiebreaker and net hoops as the secondary tiebreaker.

Each of the other Eights will play a double-round-robin of single-game matches. Ranking for each Eight is by match wins, with net hoops as the primary tiebreaker and total hoops as the secondary tiebreaker.

In any Eight, if there is a tie for first place after applying all tiebreakers, there will be a playoff (single-game matches) to determine the winner.

Time Limits

Matches in the First Eight will be untimed.

Games in the other Eights are subject to a time limit of 80 minutes. The clock is to be stopped during double-banking interference. When time expires, the game continues for eight additional turns (two turns per ball), or until the seventh point is scored for either side, whichever comes first. If, at the end of the extra turns, the game is tied, play continues until the next point is scored.

Players in all Eights are expected and required to play with reasonable despatch at all times.

Directions to venues

The entrance to Highlands Falls Country Club is on US 64, 2 miles east of downtown Highlands. From the guard house, turn right at the four-way stop, then left to the main clubhouse parking lot. Park in either of the lower two rows, which are closest to the croquet courts.

The entrance to the Chattooga Club is on NC 107, 2 miles south of Cashiers, on the west side of the road (about 0.3 miles after passing Whiteside Cove Road on the right). At the gatehouse, ask for directions to the lodge and the croquet courts.

The entrance to Lake Toxaway Country Club is on US 64, 1.3 miles east of the junction with NC 281. It takes about 10 minutes to get from this entrance to the courts, which are near the main clubhouse and the Greystone Inn. Park in the main clubhouse parking lot, or continue down to the marina where there are a few parking spots nearest to the courts.
