Victoria Day Weekend AC Open

Victoria Weekend AC Tournament Notes by Pierre Dunn

Twelve players were placed in one block to play seven games against other randomly selected members of the block, in an attempt to give all players a chance to compete against players at all skill levels. The results of the games allowed seeding into a Championship knockout for the top 8 players and a Second Flight block for the bottom 4. Losers in the Championship knockout were moved into a Second Life knockout (labeled "Top Flight 2nd Life Cleanup Block") that eventually led to one player without two losses. That player and the winner of the Championship knockout meet in one final game — several of the contenders for the finals were unavailable for participation in any follow-up game that would allow a full double life to all, so the competition was arbitrarily stopped short after the winners of the two knockouts met in a single final. Given the difficulty of seeding a knockout into which several players were added in late rounds, these games are presented in a block format rather than a knockout format.

The Second Flight block suffered from a couple of late withdrawals, so the final was played by the last two players standing.
