2023 U21 GC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – Player briefing notes
Congratulations on earning your place to compete in the WCF U21 World Championship. We hope that you have a great tournament and enjoy your stay in the sunny Bay of Plenty.
The follow information is to help you to know what is happening and when so that you can relax and enjoy the Championship Event:
Play
Play on each day will begin at 8.30am. We recommend that you arrive at the venue by 8.10am so that the Manager can acquaint you with the club and you are ready for your 10 minutes practice/warm-up between 8.20 and 8.30.
Covid rules. We will be operating under whatever NZ Government regulations are in force at the time. At present these rules are that if you test positive for COVID, you need to isolate for 7 days.
Player Registration:
This will be at Croquet Mount Maunganui during the practice times on 7 February 2023. At this time you will be advised of the rules that we have to have follow regarding the licencing laws in regard to Chartered Clubs New Zealand.
Practice before the event
Practice times will be available at both venues (Mount Maunganui & Tauranga) on Tuesday 7th February between 10 am and 3.30 pm.
Opening Ceremony
This will take place at Club Mount Maunganui at 5pm Tuesday 7th February. It is hoped to hold this outdoors, so as to minimise the risk of Covid transmission. Countries will be announced and the players will follow alphabetically behind their flag bearer. This ceremony will be followed by barbecued food being available.
Playing Information
The event will be played under the 6th edition of the WCF Rules of Golf Croquet.
There will be no time limits although Rules 16.3.1 and 16.3.2 will apply.
There will be 4 blocks of 8 players with the draw completed on 1 February 2023 and block will be on www.croquetscores.com
Wednesday February 8, 9 & 10 February will be block play at Mount Maunganui & Tauranga. The Knockout Event will be at Mount Maunganui 11 February and all finals will be played at Mount Maunganui on 12 February. The Plate Event is open for the 16 players who do not make the knockout and will commence at Tauranga and Mount Maunganui on 11 February and the finals will be at Mount Maunganui on 12 February.
The Awards Dinner will be at Club Mount Maunganui commencing at 6.30 pm. Cost $40.00 per person. All interested parties welcome to attend. Please indicate if you intend to attend this dinner by Friday 10 February 10 am. Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements.
Catering
Mount Maunganui
Lunches may be ordered at Club Mount Maunganui at the restaurant/café. Clubhouse refreshments will also be available.
Tauranga
Lunch may be ordered at Tauranga. Filled rolls, sandwiches, savouries etc will be available. These will need to be ordered by 9am on the day required. Refreshments (tea, coffee biscuits) will also be available at a nominal charge.
Transport
Transport will be available for players between Croquet Mount Maunganui and Tauranga for those playing at Tauranga.
Parking
There is ample parking at both venues.
Billets
For those still needing accommodation limited billets can be arranged - $50 a night. Contact Sue [email protected] to arrange this. Otherwise, local motels are Blue Haven Motel, Seagulls Guesthouse, Mauao Studio, Baywatch Motor Inn, Paramount Apartments, Anchorage Apartments, The Mission Belle Motel, Pacific Coast Lodge & Backpackers.
