The 15th WCF Golf Croquet World Championship

Block Stage Draw by Jeff Soo

The Block Stage Draw for a world singles championship is done in three phases. The first step is a standard block draw based on current dGrade, using the "striping" or "serpentine" pattern. The second step is to correct unbalanced distributions of countries across blocks, by exchanging players between blocks. These exchanges are almost always between players with the same seeding position in their respective blocks (e.g. #3 in Block C exchanged with #3 in Block E). The #1 players in each block are not exchanged. Additional such exchanges are made to minimise changes to each block's average dGrade (not including the #(10) player in each block). The third step is exchanges within blocks, to ensure that two players from the same country do not play each other in the final block round.

Changes made in Step Two

1. Chris Barley (D7) exchanged with James Galpin (F7) (corrects USA and ENG distribution)
1. Danny Huneycutt (F6) exchanged with Sam Cuthbert (G6) (corrects ENG)
1. Gary Phipps (E3) exchanged with Aston Wade (F3) (corrects ENG)
1. Manuel Alvarez-Sala (C6) exchanged with Jamie Gumbrell (H6) (corrects AUS)
1. Richard Bilton (B5) exchanged with Greg Fletcher (H5) (corrects AUS)
1. Addison Matthews (B8) exchanged with Paul Neubecker (D8) (corrects AUS)
1. Alfonso Ayuso (F10) exchanged with Mark Shanks (E10)
1. Three-way exchange among Kyle Maloof (A4), StuartM Smith (E4), and Brian Lozano (correccts ENG while balancing grade)
1. TeKiri King (A7) exchanged with Mohammad Kamal (B7) (rebalance grade)
1. Blake Fields (A5) exchanged with Ahab Abdelwahab (F5) (rebalance grade)
1. Three-way exchange among Amr Alebiary (A3), Omar Fahmy (C3), and Jenny Clarke (D3) (rebalance grade)
1. Mostafa Eissa (D6) exchanged with Angharrad Walters (E6) (re-correct EGY)
1. Three-way exchange among Ulf Saewert (B9), Steve Leonard (F9), and Amr Hamdy (E9) (rebalance grade)

Additional change in Step Three

Ian Burridge pointed out to me that he and Euan were scheduled to meet in the final round in Block C. So I have exchanged Ian (C5) with Jamie Gumbrell (C6) to avoid a same-family final-round pairing.
