Devonport North Shore Club Champs 2025
Format by Rod Templeman
The 2025 Club Champs are scheduled to be played at NSCC over two days, Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th. If inclement conditions prevent play over that weekend the tournament will be postponed until the following weekend, July 5th/6th. If no play is possible on either weekend the 2025 event will be cancelled. Information will be posted on Croquet Scores www.croquetscores.com [CS].
A total of 12 entries had been received by the closing date. Those entries have been seeded (see Commentary, Seeding, on CS), and striped into 2 blocks of 6 according to CNZ regulations. The two blocks have been posted on CS as BLUE and RED. On day 1 players are to play one game against each of the others in their block. The top 3 players in each block will be entered into the Championship Block on day 2, the remaining players will be entered into the Plate Block on day 2. On each day the order of play will be posted in the clubhouse before hit off. Double banking will apply on some lawns on both days.
Lawns will be allocated for the first game on each day. Subsequent games may be played on any available lawn. Players are asked to try to play at least 2 of their games on each day using second colours. There will be a 5 minute hit up before play on each day … no other practice is permitted at any time during the event. All games will start from the SE corner; second colours may start only once first colours have run hoop 2.
On day 1 the top 3 players will be chosen from the results shown on CS. The 3 players with the highest number of wins from each block, or the highest number of net hoops should there be one or more player with the same number of wins, will proceed to the Championship Block. If the number of net hoops is also equal then selection will be via the ‘who beat whom’ method. If a player, or players, are unable to play on the day the Tournament Manager will attempt to find a replacement (replacements); if no replacement can be found it may be necessary to introduce a BYE.
Entrants can expect to play no more than 5 untimed games on each day. Players should arrive at 08.30, for a briefing at 08.45, play will commence at 09.00 on both days. AHS Cards will be used. The club’s Dawson balls will be in use. Quadway hoops will be set to 3 3/4” as usual. Jumping and hammer shots are permitted, though soft conditions may make players wary of taking these shots on some hoops. The winner and runner up will be determined in the same way as for day 1; greatest number of wins/net hoops/‘who beat whom’. Presentation of trophies will take place during tea at the end of day 2. In the event of any dispute the decision of the Tournament Manager will be final.
