Northern Stars One Day Finals

Competition Details by Ian Burridge

Qualification for these Finals is via Heats being held at:
Pendle (April 25th), Nottingham (May 2nd), Ashby (May 9th), Middlesbrough (May 31st), Chester (July 4th)
Entry to these Heats is via the Croquet England Fixtures Calendar.

Heats

Each of the 5 heats will consist of 12 players, divided into two blocks of 6 players. The top two players from each block will play-off for places 1-4, the 3rd and 4th players in each block will play-off for positions 5-8 and the 5th and 6th players in each block will play-off for positions 9-12.

Open Final

The winner of each Heat qualifies for the Open Final.
The remaining players will receive Open Qualifying Points based on their finishing position (2nd=15, 3rd=13, 4th=11,5th=9,6th=7,7th=6,8th=5,9th=4,10th=3,11th=2,12th=1).

There are 8 places in total in the Open Final. In addition to the Heat winners, the players with the highest total number of Open Qualifying Points from the Heats will also qualify for the Open Final. If any qualified player chooses not to play in the Open Final (or if someone qualifies twice) their place goes to the player with the next most Open Qualifying Points. In the event of a tie on Open Qualifying Points the player with the highest single heat points score will be preferred. If a tie still remains the matter will be decided by lot.
The Open Final will be played as a best of 3 KO throughout. There will be a 3rd/4th place play-off, best of 3. First round losers will contest a Bowl, also best of 3 throughout.

Challenger Final

At each heat the total number of handicap card points gained/lost by each player will be calculated and the players ranked accordingly.
The player gaining the most handicap card points in each Heat qualifies for the Challenger Final.
The remaining players will receive Challenger Qualifying Points based on their handicap card points gained/lost (2nd=15, 3rd=13, 4th=11,5th=9,6th=7,7th=6,8th=5,9th=4,10th=3,11th=2,12th=1).

There are 8 places in total in the Challenger Final. In addition to the players gaining the most handicap card points at each Heat, the players gaining the most Challenger Qualifying Points from the Heats in total will also qualify for the Challenger Final. If any qualified player chooses not to play in the Challenger Final (or if someone qualifies twice) their place goes to the player with the next most Challenger Points. In the event of a tie on Challenger Qualifying Points the player with the highest single score will be preferred. If a tie still remains the matter will be decided by lot.
The Challenger Final will be played as an 8 player single game block. The finishing order of the players will be determined by total Handicap Card Points won or lost. In the event of a two player tie the winner will be the player winning the game between them. If a tie remains, or if more than two players are tied the winner will be the player who would have achieved the highest finishing position in a normal block ie Games won, net hoops etc in accordance with CqE Tournament Regulations.

Note: A player qualifying for both the Open Final and the Challenger Final must play in the Open Final.
