Lawn 3 Game 1 to Mulliner over Patel. Game 2, Patel's red clip is on 2, but Mulliner has just made 1. Some work required to pick up break.

Just been hearing Jeff Dawson's account of his game with Death yesterday. Death starts on 1 and 1-back v 4-back and 3, does TPO with 2 peels on partner, has 2 balls off. It's a while before Death can afford to take posi at 3-back, so Dawson slowly comes back, and indeed is first thru rover. But then Death hits 18-yarder, rolls up to rover, finishes.

4 Avery to 4-back.

4 Maugham takes off to hoop 1 from East bdry, successfully! Looks like he'll need to roll off 2 from 2nd corner for break, and probably TPO.

2 Bamford has made 6 hoops and has a spread. Death lifts ball nr W bdry to B-baulk, misses to just out of 4th corner. Sextuple attempt coming up.

1 Riva has B spread but not a bad one B+ maybe. Fulford hits from B-baulk, presumably some sort of target.

Message from Nick Parish

Saw Avery was game up and break up against Beast and idly wondered when he last knocked Beast out of a major tournament as I couldn't remember any such examples. A bit of research in the rankings reveals that Mark has played David 76 times (obviously not all in matches) and his record against Dave is worse than any other opponent against whom he has played more than ten games, other than Bamford. The one and only time Mark has beaten Dave in a match was the very first time they met - the 1989 World Championships. Go Muppet!

Had a query from Ian Plummer about conditions. Front lawns about 13 seconds. Hoops are in new holes today, but still relatively straightforward. Must be quite hot out there - I'm pretty much in shade (by Mangler's tent) and it's pretty warm.

He didn't get a good enough rush on Red, so take-off in order to rush-peel. But after this stroke, Black is still in the jaws! So he croquets it through, and hits off in 3rd corner.
