NZ vs USA Day 2: Chapman and Clarke vs Rothman and Maloof by Jarrod Coutts

The players and officials are gathered round the EB - I'm guessing looking at something surrounding the string boundaries. Let's get it underway!

19 Apr 2017 9:03AM (Tournament); 18 Readers

Chapman B
Clarke K
Maloof Y
Rothman R

B 2y SW of the peg
Y Just N of C4
K misses Y into c4

19 Apr 2017 9:10AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

Rothman hits the gap - we're not sure how big the gap is from here, but good chance for Clarke to have first break

19 Apr 2017 9:10AM (Tournament); 25 Readers

Clarke has possibly wired herself from partner getting a rush to h1

19 Apr 2017 9:14AM (Tournament); 27 Readers

She has - aborts to the EB with balls all over the gaff

19 Apr 2017 9:16AM (Tournament); 29 Readers

Rothman misses the 16 yarder at Chapman to go 10ys of c2 with partner just off h2. Chapman now shooting from south of hte peg to the ball at H2... misses

Rothman hits the 9 yarder on partner and is deciding what to do. Taking croquet from just S of h2 and has oppo balls in c2 and 12yS of c3

19 Apr 2017 9:23AM (Tournament); 34 Readers

Chapman misses a 18 yarder and Maloof has work to do to go round still

19 Apr 2017 9:30AM (Tournament); 36 Readers

Maloof has a backwards approach to H1 and grovels through the hoop.. I don't think he can see much?

19 Apr 2017 9:32AM (Tournament); 38 Readers

A bit of interaction, Maloof shot at partner at h2 when he was hampered, NZ did something and I think Maloof has missed his return after h2

19 Apr 2017 9:42AM (Tournament); 39 Readers

Clarke misses a 12 yarder at partner on the WB

19 Apr 2017 9:42AM (Tournament); 41 Readers

NZ have the innings and USA have a range of 13-16 yard options

19 Apr 2017 9:42AM (Tournament); 42 Readers

Maloof approaching h5 with a break after hitting

19 Apr 2017 9:52AM (Tournament); 49 Readers

Maloof had a spread with all other clips on h1

19 Apr 2017 10:10AM (Tournament); 47 Readers

Clarke hits the lift and after some hard work has made h1

19 Apr 2017 10:10AM (Tournament); 48 Readers

Currently approaching h3 off the oppo's h1 ball, so it will just be a ball to 4b

19 Apr 2017 10:15AM (Tournament); 47 Readers

Clarke has what looks like a good NSL with Maloofs 4b ball at 3b and Rothmans h1(?) ball near the WB. Chapman still for H1

19 Apr 2017 10:31AM (Tournament); 48 Readers

I think the lift was missed as I'm currently watching Chapman run h1. If I was a gambling man, I'd say its 50:50 Chapman will finish and I'd put the house on the $1.90 that he would finish

19 Apr 2017 10:39AM (Tournament); 51 Readers

If I had a house that was

19 Apr 2017 10:39AM (Tournament); 51 Readers

One peel done and still in a standard position

19 Apr 2017 10:54AM (Tournament); 50 Readers

Rush peels penault after 1b so that should be game one to NZ

19 Apr 2017 10:54AM (Tournament); 51 Readers

Game 1 to NZ 17TP

19 Apr 2017 11:30AM (Tournament); 56 Readers

Game 2 USA has the innings

19 Apr 2017 11:30AM (Tournament); 56 Readers

no one has made any points

19 Apr 2017 11:30AM (Tournament); 56 Readers

Rothman had first break with a spread, Jenny lifted her peg ball and shot down the line

19 Apr 2017 12:02PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

Missed

19 Apr 2017 12:02PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

Maloof didn't get going but USA still has the innings

19 Apr 2017 12:02PM (Tournament); 47 Readers

Maloof approaching h4 on a delayed TP

19 Apr 2017 12:22PM (Tournament); 56 Readers

Clip positions end on 2b and penault with Clarke taking the short lift and now in control of NZs first break

19 Apr 2017 12:42PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

It was going to be a DPO leaving 3b alone vs 1 and peg, but Clarke failed 1b

19 Apr 2017 1:15PM (Tournament); 45 Readers

USA missed and Chapman hit a 10 yarder at the ball in the jaws of rover and made some form of leave

19 Apr 2017 1:15PM (Tournament); 44 Readers

Clarke made 1b and then made a leave

19 Apr 2017 1:16PM (Tournament); 43 Readers

Maloof missed leaving;

Maloof 3b
Rothman rover
Clarke 2b
Chapman h1 with the chance of a quin for the match

19 Apr 2017 1:16PM (Tournament); 44 Readers

Chapmans quin doesn't make much progress - there is now a clip on H2

19 Apr 2017 1:24PM (Tournament); 44 Readers

I'm not sure how it got there, but there was a ball on the yardline and the ball in front of h2 looked in pretty good position, so I'm assuming he croqueted a ball off the NB?

Current situation;

Chapman h2
Clarke 2b
Rothman peg (possibly rover)
Maloof 3b

19 Apr 2017 1:25PM (Tournament); 44 Readers

Rothman definitely on the peg

19 Apr 2017 1:25PM (Tournament); 42 Readers

Not only is he only on the peg, he's just hit a good pressure `12 yarder and USA now have the innings

19 Apr 2017 1:26PM (Tournament); 42 Readers

USA's leave is laid up on EB level with H4, with Chapmans B (h2) slightly inlawn, 5yS of c3 and Clarkes 2B 3yN of 2B

19 Apr 2017 1:30PM (Tournament); 42 Readers

Clarke taking the 25 yarder.. looks interested.. but not quite

19 Apr 2017 1:32PM (Tournament); 43 Readers

Turns out I've had another stuff up - Maloof was still on 2B which explains the choice of shot a bit more

19 Apr 2017 1:34PM (Tournament); 44 Readers

Big rush to 2b for the win to level the match

19 Apr 2017 1:36PM (Tournament); 47 Readers

Good shot and is approaching 3b in control so that should be 1-1

19 Apr 2017 1:36PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

I spoke too soon! Maloof failed Rover!

19 Apr 2017 1:41PM (Tournament); 46 Readers

Chapman and Clarke discussing their options. Chapman is the reception ball. Reminder of the clip positions;

Chapman H2
Clarke 2B
Maloof Rover
Rothman Peg

19 Apr 2017 1:43PM (Tournament); 52 Readers

Chapman rushes partner inlawn from C3 and sends it to 2B - he's going to be chasing that quin

19 Apr 2017 1:49PM (Tournament); 49 Readers

Chapman underapproaches h2.. has a discussion with Clarke and goes for the hoop

19 Apr 2017 1:51PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

Chapman underapproaches h2.. has a discussion with Clarke and goes for the hoop

19 Apr 2017 1:51PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

rejects to 7YS.. I didn't think we would see many rejections this tournament so it must have been pretty angled

19 Apr 2017 1:52PM (Tournament); 46 Readers

USA doesn't need another chance and USA levels the match

19 Apr 2017 2:03PM (Tournament); 53 Readers

G3

Chapman supershot
Rothman 5 yards inlawn off the EB a few yards S of the peg
Clarke misses Rothmans ball into c4

G3

Chapman supershot
Rothman 5 yards inlawn off the EB a few yards S of the peg

19 Apr 2017 2:16PM (Tournament); 48 Readers

Maloof misses Chapmans first supershot

19 Apr 2017 2:17PM (Tournament); 51 Readers

Chapman hits Clarker in the corner and good chance to round if he wants to

19 Apr 2017 2:19PM (Tournament); 53 Readers

Doesn't get the rush he wants.. a bit of interaction and now Clarke has a chance for first break, currently approaching h1 from 5ySE

19 Apr 2017 2:36PM (Tournament); 53 Readers

Approach looked like it was sailing 2yN of h1 but hit's the hoop and bounces into 2" position. You'll take that sort of luck where you can get it. A good rush to h2 required then the break is laid out

19 Apr 2017 2:37PM (Tournament); 50 Readers

In control now, so this should be the first ball to 4B with all other clips on h1

19 Apr 2017 2:41PM (Tournament); 56 Readers

Clarke approaching 2b and it will be an NSL with Rothman at 3B

19 Apr 2017 2:53PM (Tournament); 50 Readers

Good leave. Big shot coming up from the Americans

19 Apr 2017 3:00PM (Tournament); 45 Readers

Rothman lifts the ball at 3b and heads to C3

19 Apr 2017 3:01PM (Tournament); 46 Readers

Rothman misses and Chapman has a delayed TP for the match

19 Apr 2017 3:09PM (Tournament); 44 Readers

Currently approaching h4 with the ball already dug out of c4

19 Apr 2017 3:10PM (Tournament); 46 Readers

Jawsed the 4B peel getting a rush to H6

19 Apr 2017 3:16PM (Tournament); 43 Readers

Looks like it will be a straight double

19 Apr 2017 3:25PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

Came down to a straight rover peel, had to jump the peele which he did no problem but unfortunately for NZ, he missed the 6y return Roquet so Rothman/Maloof have a good chance to take their first ball around in G3.

Update:
Clarke: Peg
Chapman: Peg
Maloof: H1
Rothman: H1

19 Apr 2017 3:39PM (Tournament); 28 Readers

Maloof is in play, I'll let you know what the leave is, but he's made h1 with a laid break, so I expect he'll be round to 4b no problems

19 Apr 2017 3:43PM (Tournament); 27 Readers

Apologies to everyone about the delay! Wifi problems along with battery problems for both laptop and phone didn't help life and I've only just been able to update!! The shorter version is; the USA team played very well.

Maloof went round with a very good leave.

Chapman at 3b, Clarke at h2 so it was unrushable to the peg and laid up on EB.

Clarke missed the lift and Rothman finished with a TP for a +2TP in the 3rd to give USA a 4-1 lead.
