NZ vs ENG Day 2: Hogan and Shilling vs Burch and Death by Jarrod Coutts

A slight delay from me as I've had to drop a vehicle at the airport.

Burch has first break off a supershot, c4, miss leaving a double opening. Burch has a spread with Shilling at the peg

01 May 2017 8:55AM (Tournament); 14 Readers

Shilling misses into c4 and Jimbo has run h1.. this looks very similar to their start yesterday

01 May 2017 9:00AM (Tournament); 22 Readers

Jimbo nice little Hogan roll. Got the seal of approval from the player it's named after

01 May 2017 9:01AM (Tournament); 22 Readers

JB wants to pass on his regards to the family.. he said he's missing his lovely wife Emma, and his darling children Olly and Flora. What a lad he is.

01 May 2017 9:07AM (Tournament); 29 Readers

Death nearly peels penault and rover in the same shot

01 May 2017 9:07AM (Tournament); 30 Readers

Game 1 26TP 6th turn. More importantly, we've just found out the difference between a raisin and a currant. Raisins come from grapes, whereas currants come from a berry - a relation to the gooseberry. Hope you liked that one, sports fans.

Game 2

Death, to EB

01 May 2017 9:21AM (Tournament); 27 Readers

Shilling hits the edge of C2

01 May 2017 9:23AM (Tournament); 22 Readers

Burch misses partner

01 May 2017 9:24AM (Tournament); 22 Readers

Hogan hit's partner in c2

01 May 2017 9:26AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

What can the inaugural World Champ come up with? He's a campaigner is Hogan. The tent has been pitched and he'll be looking to get a clip on 4b this turn

01 May 2017 9:27AM (Tournament); 24 Readers

Makes life a little bit harder as he's approaching h1 from c1

01 May 2017 9:29AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

Doesn't finish in front of h1 so that's where his clip will end

01 May 2017 9:30AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

Retires to the NB leaving a 4y rush to c3.. Death hits his 20 yarder and I'm guessing he will have a clip on 4b at the end of this turn

01 May 2017 9:31AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

A few spectators have arrived

01 May 2017 9:34AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

They make better doors than windows, but it's great to have them on board

01 May 2017 9:34AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

I told a lie.. he did all the hard work, but his clip goes on h2. Keeps the innings though and NZ will have a range of 20 yarders

01 May 2017 9:35AM (Tournament); 23 Readers

Shilling hits from h2 to h3

01 May 2017 9:40AM (Tournament); 21 Readers

What can the southern man do.. 3rd chance for a ball at 4b this game

01 May 2017 9:41AM (Tournament); 20 Readers

It's a clip on 4b! It's going to be an NSL, but it might be an average leave.. is the ball open at h4? Could be a half.. make ya laugh

01 May 2017 10:05AM (Tournament); 25 Readers

Shilling to 4b.. Burch hits the lift and has a ball to 4b

01 May 2017 10:41AM (Tournament); 31 Readers

Hogan hits and on a TP

01 May 2017 10:41AM (Tournament); 31 Readers

2 peels done after h6

01 May 2017 10:41AM (Tournament); 32 Readers

Hogan coming off the lawn..

01 May 2017 10:44AM (Tournament); 32 Readers

For a drink

01 May 2017 10:44AM (Tournament); 32 Readers

Will be a straight rover peel at this stage

01 May 2017 10:44AM (Tournament); 34 Readers

Hogan fails 4b from nowhere.. h1 ball has a 3yard lift so that will probably be match over

01 May 2017 10:55AM (Tournament); 33 Readers

Death hasn't had a great start to his turn.. balls all over the gaff and he's now approaching h2 from S of the peg

01 May 2017 11:00AM (Tournament); 34 Readers

Jimbo plays some good recovery shots and will finish now. 4b peel done after h3 and he's away

01 May 2017 11:07AM (Tournament); 28 Readers

Hogan hit's his 2 yarder

01 May 2017 11:09AM (Tournament); 31 Readers

Might be hard to finish here.. but I think he has to go for it

01 May 2017 11:09AM (Tournament); 31 Readers

Taking a long time to think about the leave.. surely it's just a crosswire at h4 laid up near c2..?

01 May 2017 11:16AM (Tournament); 30 Readers

Nice little hammer leave

01 May 2017 11:16AM (Tournament); 30 Readers

Playing for the crosswire at h1 instead I think

01 May 2017 11:17AM (Tournament); 30 Readers

Doesn't look good. Made the mistake of playing for the narrowest crosswire possible then I don't think he got it 'Absolutely awful' I've heard from Clarke.

01 May 2017 11:21AM (Tournament); 30 Readers

Maybe a 3rd of a ball the crowd thinks. At this level from the position he was in, you need to do better than that unfortunately. But, it hasn't been hit yet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed

01 May 2017 11:23AM (Tournament); 33 Readers

ENG out onto the lawn

01 May 2017 11:29AM (Tournament); 34 Readers

01 May 2017 11:30AM (Tournament); 33 Readers

They may possibly have a ball and a bit in c3 as well

01 May 2017 11:30AM (Tournament); 33 Readers

Turns it down and is shooting at the target in c3.. it's a ball and a half

01 May 2017 11:31AM (Tournament); 33 Readers

How does that happen??

01 May 2017 11:31AM (Tournament); 32 Readers

Missed it though. That was a get out of jail card.. come on Shilling... FINISH please

01 May 2017 11:31AM (Tournament); 33 Readers

Rushes to rover and approaching from a yard

01 May 2017 11:36AM (Tournament); 35 Readers

Taking off from c1 to peg ball which is a few yards inlawn and level with h5.. good shot and we should have an equaliser

01 May 2017 11:48AM (Tournament); 26 Readers

+11 and after lunch we will have g3

01 May 2017 11:48AM (Tournament); 27 Readers

01 May 2017 1:12PM (Tournament); 28 Readers

The trainee campaigner has his turn now as Burch missed into c4

01 May 2017 1:14PM (Tournament); 24 Readers

The leave was an NSL with Burch at h4

01 May 2017 1:14PM (Tournament); 26 Readers

I'll be happy if this turn is on the peg with a good leave.. no peels, one peel or two would be fine. 3 would be great, but just finish the turn with the innings

01 May 2017 1:15PM (Tournament); 29 Readers

Shilling fails h3

01 May 2017 1:23PM (Tournament); 28 Readers

That will give Jimbo a good chance to equalise with a ball round. Will we see a TPO? Burch says no.

01 May 2017 1:35PM (Tournament); 27 Readers

Ball to 4b.. the leave is..

01 May 2017 1:40PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

Hogans 4b ball on WB level with peg
Shillings h3 ball on EB level with 4
Death tight in c2

01 May 2017 1:48PM (Tournament); 31 Readers

Doesn't get going, but has some form of leave

01 May 2017 1:53PM (Tournament); 36 Readers

Death just misses into c2, gives Shilling an improved chance for a break, but still work to do

01 May 2017 1:53PM (Tournament); 34 Readers

Shilling has a 3 ball break now and has made h4

01 May 2017 2:01PM (Tournament); 31 Readers

Shilling now has all the balls and is approaching 1b in control

01 May 2017 2:07PM (Tournament); 33 Readers

In complete control, nothing difficult about his turn and should finish 4b and peg

01 May 2017 2:16PM (Tournament); 38 Readers

NZ penult and 4b
ENG penult and rover

01 May 2017 2:47PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

Hogan hits oppo and loads penult going to partner to get a rush to 4b

01 May 2017 2:54PM (Tournament); 38 Readers

Makes 4b but will be making rover off partner

01 May 2017 2:54PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

What is he doing for the leave??

01 May 2017 2:55PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

It's a reverse spread with the penult ball on EB, rover ball at the peg and it finished with a lag back at partner leaving a 2+ yard rush towards the peg. Death lifts the ball at the peg and goes to c1.. misses into c2 and leaves a tough but match winning turn for Shilling

01 May 2017 3:06PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

Shilling hits his rush in the middle and it avoids the peg, but it doesn't get off the EB and has some very difficult shots if he wants to finish this turn. Takes a defensive option and croquets the penult ball towards c1 and lays up on the EB with a rush to penult. Death shooting from c2 at it.. misses

01 May 2017 3:11PM (Tournament); 35 Readers

Shilling turns down his rush towards penult.. is lining up the 4 yarder down the line instead

01 May 2017 3:13PM (Tournament); 34 Readers

Apologies about the big delay.. Wifi problems at exactly the wrong time!

01 May 2017 6:38PM (Tournament); 12 Readers

This was a very exciting finish to the match. There were approximately 4 x match winning turns from both teams which all weren't completed and had the crowd on the edge of their seat

01 May 2017 6:39PM (Tournament); 11 Readers

Shilling twice fell short on approaches to rover and hit a 12 yard death shot after Oppo joined. During this turn,he made penault but only had the one ball in lawn and over approached Rover from the peg. Burch then hit his 17 yard death shot and 3 turns later England scored the critical point to give them a 4-2 lead going into our day of singles. A much better performance from NZ today and we look forward to trying to peg back that lead tomorrow!
