Welcome to the 2024 GC North Island Championships to be held from October 10-13, 2024.
The Doubles Tournament will be played at Waikanae Croquet Club, 60 Park Avenue, Waikanae on Thursday, October 10th and Friday, October 11th.
There is plenty of parking available.
All players should arrive at the Club by 8:00 am for registration and briefings. There will be time for a 10 minute warm-up prior to commencement of play at 8:30 am.
The Tournament will have a full schedule of play, with 7 rounds of 13 point block play on Thursday.
Friday will be a Best of Three Knock-out of 13 point games
Losers from the Quarter Final will play a block of 13 point single games.
Losers from the Semi Final will play a single 19 point game to determine 3rd and 4th places.
No time limits for both Thursday and Friday play.
The lawns will be available for practice from 2:00-5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9th.
The Singles Tournament will commence on Saturday, October 12th and will be held at two venues, Waikanae and Paraparaumu Croquet Clubs. Paraparaumu is situated on Scaife Drive, off Mazengarb Reserve.
For those players who were not available for practice rounds on Wednesday, a lawn will be available at both venues on Friday afternoon from 2:00-5:00 pm.
Players will be divided into 4 blocks of 6, two at each venue. Blocks A and C should report to Waikanae and Blocks B and D to Paraparaumu on Saturday morning by 8:00 am for registration and briefings. There will be time for a 10 minute warm-up prior to commencement of play.
Five games of 19 points with no time limit. Top two from each block will qualify for the Knock-Out.
The top 2 from each block will report to Waikanae by 8:00 am Sunday morning, while the other 16 players will report to Paraparaumu.
Sunday – Knockout at Waikanae: The Sunday format will be a Best of Three main Knockout comprising a Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Final, all 13 point games, no time limit. If necessary the Knockout draw will be adjusted to ensure that you won’t play someone in the first round of the Knockout who you played in your block.
Semi-Final losers from the main Knockout will play Best of Three 13 point games to find 3rd and 4th placegetters.
Quarter Final losers will enter a Best of Three Y Knockout comprising a Semi Final and Final, all 13 point games, to find 5th and 6th placegetters. Losers from this Semi Final will play a single 19 point game to find 7th and 8th placegetters.
All games at Waikanae will have no time limits.
Sunday – Plate at Paraparaumu: Two blocks of 8. One person from block play will be in your Plate Block, with game results carried forward. Therefore six 13 point games, 1 hour time limit, 2 rotations when time expires, then extra hoop if tied. The block winners to play final at Waikanae.
At the end of play in Paraparaumu, all players please report to Waikanae for the final playoff. Afternoon tea and prizegiving will be at Waikanae.
There is no internet available, but mobile phones can be used.
Snacks and hot and cold drinks will be available all day. Players are asked to pay $5.00 per day as a contribution towards refreshments. Correct money would be much appreciated.
Players are asked to bring their own lunches, but lunch can be provided at a cost of $10 each. Lunches will need to be ordered and paid for each morning prior to commencement of play.
Please also remember to bring wet weather gear – just in case.
